An index, and an honest one. There is 1 piece under the label “Brendan Hawywood”, and the list holds all of them — nothing left out to keep the page tidy, nothing added to make it look fuller than it is.

All of it belongs to 2015, which is worth saying plainly and near the top: this is an archive page, the pieces on it are old, and they are kept because people still link to them rather than because they are current.

Read alongside Nets. A name collects by keyword and a desk collects by subject, and the desk is almost always the wider of the two.

What this page does not do is rank, score or recommend. There is no order of merit on it, no rating attached to any of the pieces and no summary that claims to stand in for reading them. An index earns its keep by being complete and straight about its dates, not by editorialising over the top of them.

Names were applied by hand as the pieces went up, which makes them uneven: some subjects carry three and some carry none at all. The archive and the section index do not have that problem, and both are worth trying if this page came out shorter than you expected.

One note on the numbers. They are recounted from the archive at every rebuild, so they describe the site as it stands rather than as it stood when somebody last edited a page by hand. That is also why they occasionally disagree with an older copy of the same page.
