Reviewing Addison Foote's Nets Logo Redesign

In 2012, the Nets moved to Brooklyn: a move that marked a new era, a new brand, a new team. The team changed its colors to black and white and Jay-Z announced the team’s new logo.

While the Nets logo is relatively new, it can always be enhanced. Addison Foote, a professional graphic designer, took on the challenge to recreate 30 NBA logos in just 30 days.

Here’s a look at what he came up with for the Brooklyn Nets:

Here is Foote’s explanation for his inspiration to the design:

“I drew inspiration from their current logo and their older logos from when they were in New Jersey to create this. However, I always found it strange that the franchise has had 7 different logos in their history and none of them has had a net incorporated into the design! I a put a net into my version and kept the triangular shield along with a nice flowing typeface that represents the movement the net makes when the ball goes through it.”

In his redesign of the Nets logo, Foote incorporated Brooklyn’s black and white color scheme, while adding a more appropriate image to complement the team name. While the changes to the logo may be more representative of the team name, I prefer the simplicity and symmetrical nature of Brooklyn’s current logo.
