ESPN's David Thorpe Argues Why the Nets are the League's Worst Team
The Brooklyn Nets certainly aren’t the best team in the NBA, but dubbing them the worst may be a bit of a stretch…or is it?
David Thorpe (@CoachThorpe) of ESPN’s TrueHoopTV video-cast believes that the Nets are no doubt the least flattering of all 30 teams that make up the National Basketball Association, and he made his argument very clear to host Henry Abbott (@TrueHoop).
“I don’t even know where to begin, Henry, with this team,” Thorpe said. “I think it’s full of players that we’re not even sure are NBA players anymore.”
Thorpe then goes on to evaluate some of the players individually.
“Joe Johnson? C’mon,” Thorpe declared sarcastically, claiming that Joe might be relevant on a contending team, but not with the Nets.
“I actually like Thaddeus Young, and I like him a lot next to Brook Lopez. The problem is, they might have the worst combination at 1-2-3 in the league,” he continued, before reiterating somewhat more matter-of-factly: “In fact I almost think they definitely do.”
Speaking of B-Lo, Thorpe practically placed the Nets’ future success (should they have any) squarely on his shoulders. “The only way they aren’t the worst team in the league, I think, is if Brook Lopez stays healthy, so good luck with that, right?”
Not helping matters was the Nets’ 109-105 loss to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday at the Barclay’s Center. Granted, it was only the first preseason matchup on U.S. soil for the ’15-’16 season, but if they’re gonna convince David Thorpe and all of the other naysayers of their worthiness, they’re gonna have to come better than that. The regular season begins in less than two weeks!
