Brook Lopez Trade Possibilities
In recent weeks, the Brooklyn Nets have been discussing trades involving Brook Lopez. Looking at how this season has turned out for the Nets, it is evident that the team needs to make a move to try and build for the future. Using the NBA Trade Machine, we take a look at a few trade possibilities that could ship Lopez out of Brooklyn.
The proposed trade involves the Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, and Oklahoma City Thunder. In the deal highlighted above, Lance Stephenson would be sent to Brooklyn, Brook Lopez would be sent to Oklahoma City, and Kendrick Perkins and Anthony Morrow would be sent to Charlotte. This trade gives the Thunder an upgrade at the center position, that should help them regain their playoff spot in the competitive Western Conference. While the Nets may have received a high-risk, high-reward prospect in Lance Stephenson, the main advantage of this trade is the reduced cap space. With an NBA draft class which includes Jahlil Okafor and Emmanuel Muddiay and the upcoming 2016 free-agent class which includes Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Damian Lillard, more cap space can help the Nets long-term. With this trade, the Brooklyn Nets free up a lot of much needed cap space for the future, saving about $7 million this year alone.
Another trade to keep an eye on, though it doesn’t seem extremely likely at this time, is the Brook Lopez to the Miami Heat.
The above trade illustrates a deal between the Miami Heat and the Brooklyn Nets that would send Brook Lopez and Bojan Bogdanovic to South Beach in return for Luol Deng, Mario Chalmers and Danny Granger. This trade saves money both this year and next year for the Nets. Since all three players coming over from Miami have two year deals, this trade gives the Nets a lot of flexibility going forward.
