Why Thaddeus Young’s desire to remain a Net is important

Good news, Nets fans.

In yesterday night’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Thaddeus Young, expressed interest in remaining with the Nets. Here is what he had to say before the game:

“It’s one of those things where they want me for the future, they want to keep me around. It’s a mutual feeling.”

After trading for Young in a trade that sent forward Kevin Garnett back to Minnesota, the Georgia Tech product has been nothing but good news for Nets fans. Since joining the team, Young has arguably been the most consistent and valuable player for the Brooklyn Nets.

In his twelve games as a Net, Young is averaging 13.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in just under 26 minutes a game. After coming off the bench, coach Lionel Hollins decided to bring Young into the starting lineup due to his consistent and efficient play.

Recently, Brooklyn Nets General Manager Billy King stated his desire to make the Nets younger and more athletic. Bringing in Young has done just that. At just 26 years old, he is still a force to be reckoned with. In Young’s 12 games with the Nets, he has shown his versatile play at the offensive end with a spike in his three point shooting percentage. On defense, he continues to grab rebounds, steals, and blocks as he stuffs the stat sheet.

We may not have too many draft picks, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t get younger and more athletic.
