Dahntay Jones, Nets Agree to Non-Guaranteed Contract

Free agent and former Clippers guard Dahntay Jones has signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Brooklyn Nets, Yahoo Sports reports.

Dahntay Jones, 34, played a total of 44 regular season and playoff games for the Los Angeles Clippers last season, averaging only 0.6 PPG. Currently an 11-year veteran, Jones spent the most time playing with the Memphis Grizzlies for 4 seasons between 2003-’07 — during which Lionel Hollins was an assistant coach. Since then, Jones (@dahntay1) has played for six other teams, including the Sacramento Kings, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Dallas Mavericks and the Atlanta Hawks, building up a career average 5.4 PPG.

A product of Duke University, Jones was drafted in 2003 as the overall 20th pick by the Celtics. He now has a chance to make the Nets’ roster at training camp. ESPN lists him as 6’6 and 225 lbs.

Billy King, a general manager known for his willingness to make an abundance of roster transactions, seemed to have gone into overdrive this past offseason. With the “Five Year Plan” in the hindsight of the organization, King did his best to bring in players that were athletic, young and most importantly for Brooklyn, affordable.
