Thaddeus Young will opt-out of contract with the Nets

Brooklyn Nets forward Thaddeus Young has opted out of the final year of his contract, becoming an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Young held a $10.2 million player option for the 2015-16 season, but was expected to opt out of the final year of his contract and test the market.

The Nets, who have prioritized re-signing him, hold Young’s Bird Rights, enabling the team to pay him more than any other team can.

Young, 27, averaged 13.8 points per game and shot 49.5 percent from the field after being acquired by the Nets at the trade deadline from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Kevin Garnett.

Hopefully, Brooklyn can keep the stretch forward happy and lock him up with a long-term contract.
