Brooklyn Nets waive Joe Johnson
The Brooklyn Nets have requested waivers on Joe Johnson , General Manager Sean Marks announced today afternoon.
In three and a half seasons with Brooklyn following a blockbuster trade that sent the Atlanta Hawks superstar to the Nets, Johnson has played 288 games, averaging 14.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.
The new General Manager of the Brooklyn Nets had nothing but praise for “Joe Jesus”:
“The Nets want to thank Joe for his many contributions to the team and the organization. Joe has been a quality professional since joining the Nets four years ago, was a valued member of three playoff teams, and provided many thrilling moments for his teammates and Nets’ fans. We wish him much success in the future.”
Seven teams are already in pursuit of Johnson should he agree to a buyout: Hawks, Celtics, Cavaliers, Rockets, Heat, Thunder and Raptors. For playoff teams looking for one extra piece to make a deep playoff run, Johnson

A source close to Nets Daily News confirmed that Joe Johnson finished his final rack for the three-point competition.

Still trying to figure the real reason for buying out JJ?
However, one main possibility was shown last night.
Nets are much more athletic now and it now forces the coach to play others and play at a faster pace.I will miss Iso Joe, but most of the rest of his game can be replaced.
Nets now are almost 5 million under the Tax for this year. That means they can use the Jack exception for a more expensive player. They now have 2 open roster spots. If they can’t get a better player, Marks is very familiar with the D-League. They will definitely add a PG as Larkin is too much of a defensive liability.
Could deal have been made because Proky wanted to save $3 million? I doubt it, after spending $50 million on training facility.
We haven’t heard of any complaining from JJ or a strong desire to be traded/waived.
Yet nearly all Nets fans wanted to see JJ playing less.
Perhaps the idea floated to JJ was that he’d be coming off the bench and playing less minutes.
JJ might have at that point said that he didn’t like the idea and wanted a trade.Without JJ in lineup, others now seem more confident and free, knowing that they’d get more PT.
Now maybe we will see what Brown, Bojan, McC and even Karasev can do.

I haven’t had a chance to mention how wrong i was about Donald Sloan. He keeps getting better with more PT.
In fact, he reminds me of the less athletic version of DWill. He just needs to continue getting experience.
It’s not a forgone conclusion that the Nets will be able to bring back Sloan, without dipping into their cap space.
He’s proving to be a legitimate backup PG with a good attitude.Might consider a separate topic on Sloan.

We now know that Dwayne Wade had been trying to recruit JJ to the Heat for some time.
JJ has a home in Miami. He asked to be traded but now it looks like he had forfeit a significant salary in order to play for heat. His post season should be short.
