Nets, Grizzlies Talk Joe Johnson Trade

According to ESPN Senior Writer Marc Stein, the Nets are confident that they’ll find a trade taker for the league’s second-highest paid player, Joe Johnson, after all.

Sources say that Brooklyn’s front office recently discussed ways in which they could send their former All-Star shooting guard to the Memphis Grizzlies — a conversation that ultimately didn’t manifest into something concrete. The Nets, however, still appear certain that they’ll eventually find the right suitor.

Who those potential beaus might be is a question still left unanswered as free agency approaches, but teams like the Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons have shown interest in Johnson prior to finalizing other trades of their own, including the Trailblazers’ Nicolas Batum and the Bucks’ Ersan Ilyasova, respectively.

Joe Johnson has only one season left in his current contract worth $24.9 million for next season. Regardless of what happens, the Nets have made it clear that their main focus is resigning Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young.
