Kevin Durant to the Nets is not as crazy as it seems

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Mike Mazzeo wrote about the improbable scenario of the Brooklyn Nets landing Kevin Durant this summer. However, in hindsight, that statement isn’t as bizarre as it may seem.

Before Sunday night’s game against the Brooklyn Nets, Kevin Durant had some nice things to say about playing basketball in New York.

It’s always fun to be here. It’s the mecca of basketball in New York City. I always enjoy playing here in front of these fans who enjoy the game of basketball. It’s amazing. You can tell when you walk in the arena. Being at Barclays and being at Madison Square Garden, it’s that pure basketball feel when you walk in the arena.

It may seem implausible for Kevin Durant to leave a team surrounded by talented superstars like Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka for the Nets, a team that dropped ten of its last eleven contests prior to a 116-106 victory over Thunder Sunday night. However, it seems like Durant understands the situation the Nets are currently going through.

They’ve lost Jarrett Jack. It’s hard losing a point guard. They have a new coach. So a lot of stuff factors into a team playing basketball. They have a lot of talent over there. Sometimes it happens when you’re not totally focused when things are going on and it can distract you from basketball . . . We’ve been there. A lot of other teams have been there.

In response to his comments about New York City and the Nets, Brooklyn’s frontcourt duo of Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young combined for 45 points and 24 rebounds in Brooklyn’s victory over the Thunder.

After the game, Durant went on two praise the dynamic Brooklyn duo…or dare I say future teammates:

They kicked our a– all night — rebounding the ball, scoring in the paint. They did what they wanted to, and we have to do a better job helping our bigs down there. They kind of controlled the game — their bigs.”

While the odds are certainly not in the favor of the Nets, there is still a chance.
