Kings and Nets discussing deal revolving Deron Williams

The Brooklyn Nets and Sacramento Kings are discussing a deal centered around former All-Star Deron Williams. One of 2012’s most prized free agents has now become disposable.

Here is what Yahoo Sports had to say about the trade talks between Brooklyn and Sacremento :

“No deal is imminent, but the talks are ongoing, sources told Yahoo Sports.

The talks have been centered around sending the Nets point guard Darren Collison and forwards Derrick Williams and Jason Thompson as part of a multi-player package for Williams, league sources said.

Sacramento has significant interest with Williams, but a hurdle to a possible deal is the Kings’ desire to have center Mason Plumlee included into the package, league sources said. Brooklyn has considered Plumlee a significant part of its future core.”

Although the Nets have no problem trading Deron Williams and his 2-year, $43 million contact for the aforementioned players, the Nets are hesitant to trade Mason Plumlee. The Duke Power Forward/Center is averaging a near double-double in the past five games as a starter and is a cornerstone of Brooklyn’s future.

With Williams’ ankle issues, $43 million remaining on his contract is too much to gamble on the once-elite point guard. Williams has shown glimpses of greatness, but he is no longer the player he once was. These reasons has made Williams an unattractive trade asset.

Additionally, the Kings have been satisfied with the play of Darren Collison, who has developed into a strong leader and player for the team. Although the Kings don’t want to give him up, the Nets need a point guard to fill in for Deron Williams.

Although no trade is imminent at this time, both teams are currently engaging in talks that would sent Brooklyn’s centerpiece to the Kings.
