Young's late-game heroics propels Nets to victory
Thaddeus Young drained two free throws with 1.4 seconds remaining and the Atlanta Hawks were unable to set up a shot as the Brooklyn Nets won their first game at home since last April.
Young finished the game with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and added a season-high five steals to lead the Nets to just their second victory this year. In a well-rounded team effort, Jarrett Jack added 14 points, Joe Johnson contributed 9 assists, and Brook Lopez scored a team-high 24 points.
While the Hawks led by as many as ten points, the Nets didn’t quit, a mentality the team has help despite their dismal record this season.
“We haven’t had guys quitting,” Lopez said at the team’s practice facility. “It definitely doesn’t feel like other previous seasons, where we had a losing season and a losing mentality to go with it. We have a very positive group here.”
While the Nets may have started the season 2-9, it is not yet time to give up on Brooklyn just yet.
