Brooklyn Nets receive: Jodie Meeks
Detroit Pistons receive: Jarrett Jack
Why the Nets would do it: After missing 22 games to start the season when he was diagnosed with a stress fracture of the lower back, Meeks struggled to find a huge role in the Pistons offense. The Nets need to add shooters to their roster to improve their bench production and to spread the floor better. Jodie Meeks does just that. The Pistons sharpshooter has a 37.3% career three-point shooting percentage and can help the Nets’ spacing and ball movement.
Why the Pistons would do it: With Brandon Jennings, D.J. Augustin and Spencer Dinwiddie all on the Pistons roster, Van Gundy decided to trade Will Bynum to the Boston Celtics for backup big man Joel Anthony. This improved the Pistons’ frontcourt depth, but it also left the team devoid of an instant offense guard. Jarrett Jack can fill that void. He can provide the Pistons with more depth at the guard position and bring instant offense to the team.

I think its doubtful that Jack is traded any time soon. Billy King said he wants to see continuity and didn’t expect much of a roster shifting. The plan is to just make the playoffs, while keeping cap space for 2016. Jack only contributes 500K to 2016 if he’s let go. The hope is to get rid of DWill (or stretch/buyout) Next year if he can’t be moved. Without DWill in the Nets future, Jack becomes more valuable. He has unique skills that no other Nets player possesses.
And whether Mason is traded (his value is low now) may depend on whether he shows improvement on his FT shooting technique during the off season.

I think that on paper, Jarrett Jack is a great player. However, he doesn’t play well with some players on the Nets (ex: Deron Williams) and that is reflected by his +/- rating when he is on the floor. I think that Jack is expendable and has value, making him a great player to trade at this time.

The thing is that if Jack is traded, then PG becomes the weakest position for the Nets and it takes too long to train a PG through the draft. Nets would only have to trade for another PG, since DWill isn’t in the Nets future. (I just don’t buy the wish that Brown can make it as a true PG).
Regarding DWill with Jack, Hollins isn’t a big fan of backward looking statistics. DWill WAS very good at getting the ball to Brook, but Hollins is the type of coach who believes he can improve on his players. Jack has been DWill’s biggest supporter when DWill was struggling. That is Jack isn’t selfish as some think. So if the worst case scenario is that they have to play together for 1 more year in order to make the playoffs that may have to do. Hopefully, however, DWill will have more “lift” in his step, at the start of next season, and some competing team will take DWill for expiring contracts, via trade. Jack has stated that he’d like to remain in Brooklyn. DWill needs to start fresh with a new team.
To put it another way, Nets are screwed, even if they re-sign Lopez and Thad. Also, they should have kept Jorge Gutierrez, IMO, who may be retained by Jason Kidd and the Bucks this season. Jorge was a true backup PG, with the Grit that Nets need. And he’s cheap. And I have a hunch that DWill WILL look better at the start of next season, making him tradeable for expirings.

Definitely agree, but the Nets need to get rid of Jarrett Jack because he simply isn’t efficient. He has value and hopefully the team can trade for a player who is a better fit for the Nets.
