Buying Out Deron Williams’ Contract
Buying out Williams was a difficult but necessary move for the Brooklyn Nets.
The 31-year-old point guard failed to live up to his 5-year, $98 million contract after facing numerous injuries and subsequent on-court decline each year in Brooklyn. While Williams showed flashes of his old self (like in Game 4 against the Hawks), he was way too inconsistent throughout the season. Buying out Williams helped the Nets duck under the luxury tax, saving the team $40 million.

As much as fans may try to deny it, Williams’ impact on the floor will be missed, but his attitude will not.
