Top 10 Moments in Brooklyn Part 1
In what has been an eventful and exciting first two seasons in Brooklyn, the Nets have had many ups and downs. Although they have not been able to achieve the ultimate goal of a championship, the Nets have had a successful first couple of season after their move from New Jersey. This article is the first part of a two part series in which I will rank the top 10 moments in Brooklyn Nets’ history.
10. Joe Johnson verse 76ers – December 16th, 2013
Number 10 on the list is Joe Johnson’s 3rd quarter offensive explosion against the 76ers in Barclay’s Center last season. Joe entered the 3rd quarter with 2 three pointers and ended it with 10. Yes, that’s 8 three pointers in one quarter! He had 29 points on 10-13 shooting in the 3rd, 4 points shy of the record for most points in one quarter. He finished with 37 points overall in a 130-94 win.
9. Deron WIlliams 11 threes – March 8th, 2013
In his first season in Brooklyn, Deron Williams got off to a rough start, but quickly became one of the best players in the league after the All Star break. This particular game against the Wizards in Brooklyn showed just how dangerous Williams could be. D-Will became 3will and went off for an NBA record 9 three pointers in the first half. Through the first 5 minutes of the game, Williams made 6 three pointers! He ended the game with 11 three pointers and 42 points overall, leading the Nets to victory.
8. Paul Pierce’s Game 1 performance against the Toronto Raptors – April 20th, 2014
Brooklyn got off to a great start to the 2014 playoffs in an extremely hostile Toronto crowd with a 94-87 victory. They couldn’t have done it without Paul Pierce’s vintage 4th quarter performance. Pierce scored 9 consecutive points late in the fourth quarter and hit the dagger with 50 seconds left. He told the Toronto crowd and the rest of the world watching, “That’s why they got me here!” It certainly was.
7. First Win against the Knicks – November 26th, 2012
The first Knicks vs. Nets game was a thriller and lived up to all the hype. In the much anticipated start of the Battle of the Boroughs the Nets won in overtime 96-89 in Barclay’s Center. Carmelo Anthony missed the potential game winner with 5 seconds left and the Nets dominated the overtime period. Brook Lopez finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Deron Williams added 16 points and 14 assists. This win solidified the Brooklyn Nets as a true threat to the Knicks in New York City.
6. First ever win in Brooklyn verse Raptors – November 3rd, 2012
Number 6 on the list is the historic first game in Brooklyn. There had not been a professional sports game in Brooklyn since the Dodgers left after the 1957 season. The first game was supposed to be against the Knicks, but was postponed due to Superstorm Sandy. The Nets won this game 107-100 as the Nets’ crowd began the famous “Broooooklyn” chant. Even Beyoncé took part in it! Deron Williams scored the first points in Brooklyn Nets history.
