Nets

“Nets” was a category on the old site; the links to it are still live, so its pieces are listed here.

169 pieces, filed between and

This page collects the old category “Nets”. 169 pieces carry it, and the list is recounted from the site’s own pages at every rebuild rather than typed out by hand once and left to drift.

The span is 2014, 2015 and 2016 and no wider. Reading down the page is therefore reading backwards through those years, ending on whatever was filed first under the name.

New work on this side of the site goes to Nets rather than onto names like this one. The desk carries 130 pieces, and the section index lists the other seven with their counts.

Nothing here is a verdict. The page carries no scores and makes no claim about the pieces it lists beyond their titles and their dates, because those are the only two things about them that a list can be sure of.

It isn’t often that an NBA coach with a 30-11 record coming off a Finals appearance is fired, but that was the case on Friday when the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that they have fired Head Coach David Blatt.

Brooklyn Nets have changed for the better

One of the most surprising teams of this young season has been the Brooklyn Nets. Unfortunately for the Nets, their start to the season wasn’t exactly what they had in mind.

Live by the Three, Die by the Three

We are now seven games into the season, but one thing seems abundantly clear: defense remains a major issue. It’s a rarity to see them string together consecutive defensive stops, but more alarming is the fact that they’re giving up a high percentage of the shot worth the most points: the three-pointer.

Grading the Brooklyn Nets Offseason | Page 12 of 12

With the season starting today for the new-look Nets, it should be interesting to see whether the changes they made this offseason will help the team in the long run. Overall, I think the Nets made some moves in the right direction that can hopefully help the Nets make the postseason for the fourth straight season.

Grading the Brooklyn Nets Offseason

The Brooklyn Nets have made the playoffs for three consecutive seasons, but ultimately they have nothing to show for it. The Nets have made a number of costly, short-term moves in recent years in an attempt to spark a deeper playoff run, but have ultimately failed.

The Buyout of Deron Williams: Addition By Subtraction

For a group that got considerably younger in comparison to last season, (nearly a 3-year drop in average age) one of the keys to success this year will be camaraderie. As a core of young players grabbing at the chance to prove that they belong in this league, the team will undoubtedly go through difficult stretches in the season. They lack experience, but they’ll aim to make up for it with heart and hustle.

The Best Role for Joe Johnson

Billy King, a general manager known for his willingness to make an abundance of roster transactions, seemed to have gone into overdrive this past offseason. With the “Five Year Plan” in the hindsight of the organization, King did his best to bring in players that were athletic, young and most importantly for Brooklyn, affordable.

The Nets have come a long way out of their financial purgatory, and have relieved themselves of the “old” tag that was associated with their brand. Based on where they started, they’ve made miles of progress, but based on the rate at which the East is improving, they’ve still got some work to do if they want to be considered a threat.

Cleveland is a better matchup for the Nets

If the NBA playoffs started today, the Nets would face the Atlanta Hawks in the first round. The Hawks’ all-around talent and chemistry makes them a less-ideal match-up for Brooklyn. Personally, I think that the Nets have a better chance to win against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
